The story of Sofidel America

Since 2012 we have been bringing our production model to the United States, combining efficiency, quality and respect for the environment in one of the most strategic markets in the world.

Sofidel America

2012

Where it all begins

Sofidel entered the US market, the world's largest per capita consumption of tissue, by acquiring the company Cellynne, later renamed Sofidel America. The operation included three plants: an integrated plant in Florida (Haines City) and two processing plants in Wisconsin (Green Bay) and Nevada (Henderson), relocated to Las Vegas in 2018.

2014

Our journey goes on

In 2014, Sofidel strengthened its presence by opening a new processing plant in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and upgrading its existing plant in Nevada.

2015

A year of growth

Sofidel acquired a processing plant in Green Bay, Wisconsin, and a building in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, for a new plant. It joined the federal SelectUSA programme, and embarked on its first greenfield investment in Circleville, Ohio, on a strategic 280-acre plot. In the meantime, it opened new offices in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, transferring its general US headquarters there.

2016

President's word: Sofidel in Circleville

President Barack Obama cited Sofidel as an example of success for SelectUSA, pointing to the start of works at Circleville, which would bring hundreds of jobs to the Midwest. Construction began on the Group's largest production site, operational from 2018, with advanced technologies for production and logistics automation, including LGVs and fully automated Smart Stores.

2018

Major greenfield investments

In March, Sofidel launched a second greenfield investment in Inola, Oklahoma, to serve the south-central and west-central areas of the US. The plant was presented at the SelectUSA Investment Summit as an example of success. In October, Sofidel officially opened its Circleville plant, the largest of the Group, the result of 400 million dollars of investments and able to employ some 700 people.

2020

Inola plant is operational

Between July and October, the first five converting lines in the new integrated plant in Inola started up on schedule, two of which were transferred from the plant in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Other lines were also installed from Tulsa, which was decommissioned once the relocation work in Inola was completed.

2021

The launch of Nicky

In July 2021, Sofidel America launched its first consumer brand, Nicky.

2022

Ten years of Sofidel America

Sofidel celebrated ten years of Sofidel America with a Family Day at every plant.

2023

Another step forward

To satisfy growing market demand, Sofidel boosted its production capacity with a 185-million-dollar investment in its integrated plant in Circleville, Ohio.

2024

Consolidation and development for a better geographic coverage

Two new acquisitions - a paper mill in Duluth, Minnesota, from ST Paper and the tissue division of Clearwater Paper Corporation – marking another change in scale.

2025

A challenge accepted with passion

Sofidel finalizes the acquisition of four production plants from Royal Paper. Today, the United States is one of the most strategic areas for the Group, both in industrial and commercial terms.
