Sofidel America commissions a new photovoltaic system in Circleville, Ohio

The 4.65 MW photovoltaic system will help supply renewable electricity to the Circleville facility, one of Sofidel’s main production sites in North America

Porcari (Lucca), Italy, August 4, 2026Sofidel, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of paper for hygienic and household use, known particularly in Italy and Europe for its Regina brand, continues its energy transition journey with the commissioning of a new photovoltaic system at its Circleville facility in Ohio (USA), one of the Group’s main production sites in North America.

Installed on the roof of the reel warehouse built as part of the facility’s recent expansion, the system consists of 8,010 photovoltaic panels and has a total installed capacity of 4.65 MW. Since the system became operational, approximately 1,084 tonnes of CO emissions were avoided between January and June 2026, based on the area's market-based emission factor of 454.9 gCO₂/kWh.

The project follows the recent start-up of the facility’s third paper machine, bringing its annual production capacity to more than 200,000 tons.

"The commissioning of the Circleville photovoltaic system will enable us to significantly reduce the environmental impact of one of our key production sites. It marks another step forward in the Group's strategy to expand the use of renewable energy worldwide. Improving the energy efficiency of our operations is not only a fundamental environmental priority, but also an essential competitive lever for Sofidel," said Antonio Cuccarese, Sofidel America Capital Projects Director – Paper Mill and Construction.

Among the most recent milestones in Sofidel's decarbonization journey are the commissioning of a biomass boiler at its Frouard facility in France and the commissioning of a photovoltaic system at its Rothley Lodge facility in the United Kingdom.
