Sofidel for the climate

Let's build a low-emission future together

Sofidel has set ambitious decarbonisation targets in line with the Science Based Target initiative (SBTi), committing to reduce greenhouse gas emissions (scope 1, 2 and 3) by 40 percent per tonne of paper by 2030 compared to 2018 levels. In particular, scope 3 emissions from pulp production will be cut by 24%. To achieve these goals, the company adopts a multi-option strategy to increase the use of renewable energy, adapting to the specific climate, infrastructure and regulations of each country in which it operates.

Net Zero 2050: solid action for a tomorrow with zero emissions

As well as medium-term targets, Sofidel wants to commit itself in the long term to a Net Zero condition by the year 2050.

Cutting carbon emissions is not enough to get to Net Zero: you have to go as far as possible and compensate for what is left. At Sofidel, we work to cut emissions at source and remove excess carbon, even beyond our own supply chain. Advanced technologies, renewable energy and innovative solutions guide this path, with the aim of minimising environmental impact and creating value for the planet.

For more than 15 years, we have been at the forefront of reducing our environmental impact through a structured, energy-efficiency strategy. Between 2009 and 2020, we reduced our carbon intensity by 24%, exceeding the initial target of 23% set in 2008 under the WWF Climate Savers programme. Today, at Sofidel, we continue to accelerate the transition to a low-carbon economy through strategic partnerships, investments in renewable energy and technological innovations that can improve the efficiency of plants and production processes.

Since 2008, Sofidel has been the first Italian company and the first in the world in the tissue sector to have joined the WWF Climate Savers programme, now the WWF Climate Business Network.

SBTi

Sofidel's targets have been validated by SBTi (Science Based Target Initiative), an organisation that works for climate action and enables companies and financial institutions to play their part in combating the climate crisis.

CDP

Since 2022 Sofidel has been in the Leadership Band for the CDP climate rating, standing out with a higher score than its sector.
