Production cycle

From pulp to finished products: a sustainable process driven by innovation and quality

A virtuous circle of quality and innovation

Sofidel makes high-quality tissue paper using a production cycle that combines state-of-the-art technology with a strong commitment towards the environment. From the selection of raw materials through to final processing, every step is studied to guarantee excellence and reduce our footprint to a minimum.

01.

From the cellulose warehouse to the loading belts.

The cellulose bales are taken from the warehouse and placed on loading belts to be transported to the pulpers. Each step is optimised to avoid waste and ensure precision.

02.

Preparation of the mix in the pulper

Cellulose, treated with hot water and biodegradable substances, is transformed into a smooth paste. This mix balances long fibres for strength and short fibres for softness, creating the perfect base for tissue paper.

03.

Forming the parent reel

The pulp is spread on a cloth and dried using a cylinder heated with hot air. The result is a continuous sheet of paper that is rolled up to form the parent reel, ready for quality control.

04.

Control measurement for product specifications

We check that the parent reels comply with the main physical and technical parameters for each type of use. Spot checks are then carried out to verify other special requirements.

05.

Core winder: coupling of several plies

The “Jumbo Rolls”, or parent reels are wound with a single ply paper; this machine bonds two, three or four of these plies together according to the specific needs of the product being made.

06.

Storage of parent reels

The reels that come from the core winder are wrapped in plastic film and labelled, then transported to the warehouse, where they remain until they are required to make the products for which they are intended.

07.

Transformation from parent reel to finished product

All types of finished products originate from specific processing lines, also known as conversion plants. Here the paper is printed, bonded, embossed, perforated, and then wound onto a cardboard roll to create the rough reel (log) that will then be cut to the required length.

08.

Packaging and palletising

In the packaging area, the products are wrapped in individual packages, and then in multiple packages for wholesale. A robot places the packs on shipping pallets before the production process is completed with wrapping and labelling.

09.

Storage of finished products

The labelled pallets are picked up by staff using forklift trucks and stored in the warehouse to await delivery to the end customer.
