For Sofidel, water is an essential resource to be protected. Through a responsible approach, the Group is committed to minimizing water consumption, while ensuring advanced purification processes and efficient use.
Sustainable water management is at the heart of Sofidel’s efforts. It has implemented water recycling systems in processes originally reliant on fresh water, and introduced alarms and control tools to optimize consumption. Furthermore, the Group uses rainwater and helps reduce the impact on the natural water cycle.
Sofidel plants embody sustainable innovation: in Porcari (Lucca), the Waste Water Reuse system saves 230,000 m³ of water per year thanks to a triple purification process, while the Baglan (UK) plant uses a rainwater recovery system, which allows for annual savings of over 47,000 m³.
Sofidel’s production network is equipped with biological wastewater treatment plants, managed both internally and by specialized partners. Thanks to this focus on water efficiency, the Group boasts an average specific consumption of just 7.6 liters per kilogram of paper produced, setting a benchmark for excellence in the industry.
