{"id":6108,"date":"2019-09-11T09:24:56","date_gmt":"2019-09-11T09:24:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.sofidel.com\/comunicato\/sofidel-bids-farewell-to-disposable-plastics-in-its-workplaces\/"},"modified":"2019-09-11T09:24:21","modified_gmt":"2019-09-11T09:24:21","slug":"sofidel-bids-farewell-to-disposable-plastics-in-its-workplaces","status":"publish","type":"comunicato","link":"https:\/\/www.sofidel.com\/en\/press-releases\/sofidel-bids-farewell-to-disposable-plastics-in-its-workplaces\/","title":{"rendered":"Sofidel bids farewell to disposable plastics in its workplaces"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>The decision regards its Italian companies as of 1<sup>st<\/sup> July and will be extended over the coming months to all Group companies across Europe and the US.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A few weeks ago, the company also announced it will halve the use of conventional plastic in its production by 2030.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Porcari (Lucca, Italy), September 11, 2019<\/strong> \u2013 Sofidel, one of the world\u2019s leading manufacturers of tissue paper for hygienic and domestic use, particularly well-known for its Regina brand, has decided to <strong>abandon use of disposable plastic items in its workplaces<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Italian offices and production sites, <strong>all disposable plastic bottles, glasses, plates and cutlery have been eliminated, replaced with more sustainable materials or ones with a more consolidated recycling system<\/strong> such as, for example, returnable glass bottles, aluminium cans, wood pulp plates and glasses, and wooden cutlery. This protocol will be extended over the coming months to all Group companies in the 13 countries across which Sofidel operates in Europe and the US.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The decision to eliminate disposable plastic in the work environments comes just a few weeks after the company announced that it will halve use of conventional plastic in its production by 2030<\/strong>. This will be achieved with <strong>the introduction of new paper packaging, <\/strong>already present or due to arrive on European distribution shelves, the <strong>progressive use<\/strong>, on some markets, <strong>of recycled plastics or bioplastics<\/strong>, and a general <strong>reduction in the thickness of the plastic film<\/strong> used in the production process (launched some years ago).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The commitment begins with the <strong>Sofidel brands <\/strong>(including Regina, Cosynel, Nalys, Le Tr\u00e8fle, Sopalin and KittenSoft), many of which are leaders on their reference markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Sofidel Group is one of the world\u2019s leading manufacturers of <strong>tissue paper for hygienic and domestic use<\/strong> and has its headquarters in Porcari, Italy. Sofidel has been the first Italian manufacturer, and the world\u2019s first in the tissue sector, to have joined WWF\u2019s flagship climate leadership programme \u2013 <strong><em>WWF Climate Savers <\/em><\/strong>\u2013 that seeks to transform businesses into leaders of the low-carbon economy by setting particularly ambitious objectives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To date, <strong>Sofidel has reduced direct emissions of CO<sub>2 <\/sub>into the atmosphere by 18.3% <\/strong>(reduction in carbon intensity, 2009-2018). To achieve this result, the company invested in ten years (2009 \u2013 2018) <strong>about 100 million euros <\/strong>in <strong>cogeneration plants and energy production from renewable sources<\/strong> (photovoltaic and hydroelectric), <strong>biomass power plants and energy efficiency<\/strong>.
