Affordable and Clean Energy

Affordable and clean Energy

Sofidel has always been committed to improving energy efficiency and reducing plant emissions through investments in biomass, cogeneration, hydroelectric and solar power. The Group’s objective is to achieve an 8% increase in the use of renewable sources on the quantity of fuels consumed each year by 2020, reducing direct greenhouse gas emissions per tonne of paper produced by 23% and indirect emissions by 13% compared to 2009 levels.

Sofidel’s attention to asset quality, with the consequent availability of production plants that are on average younger and perform better than others in the sector, helps the Group achieve our ambitious objectives in the areas of energy efficiency, clean energy and the reduction of climate altering emissions.

In pursuing our business objectives, Sofidel also implements a “proximity strategy” developed with the first European plants in France, Poland, Germany, Great Britain and Spain.
The strategy, which is still ongoing, has resulted in a geographical coverage for the European plants within a range of 350/400 km and 700/800 km of the Group’s customers in the United States. This has certainly resulted in fewer transport kilometres travelled, leading to lower costs for the company and lower CO2 emissions.
