Green transition and social costs

Actions to counter the climate crisis must also consider the economic and social impacts generated by the green transition.

To speak of a just transition, we need to very carefully evaluate the actions to be put in place to achieve the goals outlined in the 2030 Agenda while considering the potential costs that the most exposed economic sectors and the most socially vulnerable people are likely to pay.

If not properly managed, these costs can hinder inclusion processes or translate into risks to social cohesion, economic stability, and the same implementation of climate policies.

Europe has long been at the forefront of the path toward the just transition and intends to become the first zero-emission continent by 2050.
