In 2013, the specific average amount of water consumed by Sofidel processes was 7.6 litres per kg of paper produced (compared to 8.16 l/kg in 2012).
Water is an essential element of paper manufacturing: it is used in different phases of the production process. In particular, it is the fluid through which the fibres that are used are moved around.
The investments made in technology and management methodologies to help reduce the direct use of water in its processes, in both water-sensitive areas (Italy, Spain, and Greece) and in areas with access to abundant water resources, have produced further results.
