Milan, Italy, 10th October 2018

Sodalitas Foundation has awarded the 10 best projects that have been able to combine sustainability and business by creating tangible value for the communities and territories. The awards were presented yesterday during the meeting "Le imprese protagoniste dello sviluppo sostenibile”, held at the Assolombarda Auditorium in Milan, Italy.

The project "Sofidel and the protection of water resources" has been selected as the winner of the Sodalitas Social Award for the Special Award "Best Profit/Non-profit Partnership in International Cooperation". The Award Jury recognized Sofidel and its protection of water resources as the most effective initiative promoting economic and social growth in Developing Countries.

Since 2018 Sofidel has been a partner of the WaterAid Healthy Communities project in Mali where the scarcity of rainfall, as well as its irregularity, together with the political difficulties experienced by the country, makes the water situation particularly precarious. WaterAid is active in the south-east, in the rural municipality of Samabogo, within the Bla district, region of Ségou. The Kanuya Group was set up here, an association of local women who received training and micro-credit to produce and sell shea soap to the local community, as well as being active in educating people about good hygiene practices. Thanks also to Sofidel's support, WaterAid was able to provide access to clean water, a decent bathroom and adequate hygiene conditions to tens of thousands of people.

The Sodalitas Social Award 2018 was recognized to the most effective initiatives in contributing to the challenges at the heart of the United Nations Agenda 2030. The winners were nominated by an independent Jury chaired by the Rector of the Catholic University of Milan and consisting of representatives from the world of research, academia, third sector organizations, institutions and associations.

The Social Award, now in its 16th year, is the most authoritative award given in Italy to companies that take on the leadership to achieve a sustainable future. The Award is organized by Sodalitas Foundation in collaboration with Fondazione Italiana Accenture, GfK, Omnicom Public Relations Group, with the support of Zeta Service and with the patronage of Assolombarda, European Commission and Unioncamere.
