An opportunity to learn about a significant page in the industrial history of Porcari. The book “Sofidel: 50 years of growth into the future” will be presented on Friday 2nd December at 5:30pm in the Vincenzo Da Massa Carrara Auditorium in Porcari; a work that covers the first fifty years of history of the paper group whose Regina brand is well-known in Italy.

It will be the last of the events celebrating the 50th anniversary of the company which, having begun in Milan, now conclude in the municipality where it all originated.

Led by Fabrizio Diolaiuti, the story of a company that is second in Europe and sixth in the world will be told by the Mayor of Porcari, Alberto Baccini, Sofidel’s CEO, Luigi Lazzareschi, the Vice President of Confindustria - North Tuscany, Cristina Galeotti, the Dean of the Department of Economics and Management at the University of Pisa, Silvio Bianchi Martini, and Professor of History of Economic Thought at the University of Pisa, Marco Guidi.

An opportunity to discover the history of a territory that was once solely agricultural and has managed to affirm itself as an important industrial production hub.

The book has been written by a research group from the Department of Economics and Management at the University of Pisa, coordinated by Prof Silvio Bianchi Martini. It traces the history of a company that, from its beginnings in the countryside near Lucca, has been able to expand in Europe and in the US, as well as the story of an entire industry (namely the tissue industry which produces tissue paper for hygienic and domestic use) which sees the Lucchese paper district compete and win on international markets. A driving force of development and wellbeing for the whole territory.
