Values, decisions, results, objectives … in the Sofidel paper group’s integrated report, each stakeholder can evaluate for themselves the economic, social and environmental value of the daily work of more than 5,500 people – because transparency is also a sustainability issue.
The Sofidel Group was founded in 1966 and is now, after 50 years of business activity, one of the world leaders in the market for tissue paper for sanitary and domestic use: toilet paper, kitchen towel, paper handkerchiefs, tissues, etc. From its Headquarters in Porcari, in the province of Lucca, Sofidel manages and coordinates the activities of 19 companies spread throughout Europe and the United States. These include paper mills for the production of parent reels of tissue paper, converting plants that make the finished products, integrated plants (paper mill and converting plant) and offices dealing with sales, logistics and services.
2016 was the 50th year of Sofidel life.
A year marked by celebrations, lived as a moment of reflection and identity growth, and a renewed enthusiasm towards the future, put into effect with the implementation of important investments both in Europe and in the United States.
The focus on sustainability as a lever for competitive growth, the attention given to technological innovation, the pursuit of quality, the construction of stable and long-lasting relationships with stakeholders and a positive approach to the future have been key factors in the Group’s growth.
The principle Less is More, which underlies all the activities of the Sofidel Group, finds its natural expression in the environmental field. Paper production is, in fact, a highly energy intensive process that has an impact on some of the fundamental resources of the planet: the forests, the atmosphere and water. That is why the Group is committed to reducing its environmental impact by using innovative strategies and technology to limit CO2 emissions, respecting forest resources by applying strict purchasing policies and using water resources in the most rational way possible.

Toilet paper, kitchen towel, handkerchiefs, tissues ... Each Sofidel product expresses the strategy of a Group which makes innovation, safety and attention to personal health and wellbeing and environmental protection the reference points for its value creation process.
The Sofidel paper group was the first Italian company and the first in the global tissue industry to join the international project whereby the WWF proposes large companies to voluntarily adopt schemes to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, through innovative strategies and technologies that allow them to take on the role of leaders in reducing CO2 emissions in their industry.
Sofidel’s sustainability strategy aims at “building an inclusive, sustainable and resilient future for people and planet”, in accordance with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
