Sofidel, one of the leading European manufacturers of paper for hygienic and domestic use, has participated in CDP Global Forests Report 2014: “Deforestation-free supply chains: from commitments to action”.
It is the first time Sofidel has responded to the annual information request from CDP on forest risk commodities.
At its debut the company has achieved a score of 89.70% on the assessment of its performance; an achievement that places the company above the sector average score.
“Participation in CDP Global Forests Report 2014 is a further step in our commitment to sustainable development and transparency. Sofidel is aware of the important role that forests play in protecting the environment and maintaining and enriching biodiversity and how critical this issue is for the sector. This achievement strengthens our firm belief in going ahead in this direction and represents an opportunity for increasing multi-stakeholder initiatives on deforestation issues”, said Mr. Luigi Lazzareschi, CEO of
the Sofidel Group.
In 2013 Sofidel consolidated its commitment to the sustainable sourcing of forest resources; the total percentage of virgin fibre from certified or controlled sources, in accordance with the major certification schemes (FSC®, FSC®- CW, PEFC™, SFI™), was equal to 99.6%.
The CDP’s forests program was launched in 2009. CDP Global Forests Report 2014 has been compiled on behalf of 240 investor signatories with US$15 trillion in assets, and draws together data collected from 162 of the world’s largest companies.
